We have previously discussed the issue of rogue movers and the importance of doing research on which moving company you choose.  A recent USA Today article, written by Natalie DiBlasio, discusses how federal and state authorities have been getting serious about this issue and have began cracking down on scammers who raise prices, give fake estimates and hold customers’ items hostage.  States like California, Illinois and New Jersey have conducted undercover operations regarding rogue movers.  Maryland has approved legislation that keeps movers from charging more than 25% above an original estimate.

The severity of rogue movers puts trustworthy moving company’s credibility in jeopardy.  Campaign’s like “The Right Move” – which Dircks is part of – is one way to bring awareness to the situation, but much more needs to be done.  The Better Business Bureau has seen a steady increase in complaints against unlicensed movers, which has caused the Bureau to start tracking similar movers.

It is unfortunate that the problem of rogue movers exists, but much is being done to help stop and eliminate the issue, and to also bring awareness to consumers.  To read the full USA Today article visit http://usat.ly/ook8r7, and stay tuned to the Dircks website as we continue to provide news and information on our company and the moving industry to help you move forward.
