Don’t Hire Your Friend as Your Professional Mover

We’ve all been guilty of taking short cuts…literally, on the way to work, we conveniently cut through the corner store so as not to wait for a red light only to see flashing lights behind you.  How about that time the toilet was clogged and you thought you could fix it yourself?  How did that work out?

Moving falls into the same category of all the above.  If only you had done it right the first time, with professional movers, then you would have zero regrets.  The most common mistake made by someone who needs to move is they ask their friends and neglect to hire professionals.  Friends don’t move friends.  When does it ever turn out to be a “I’m glad I took that short cut!”?  It doesn’t.  Actually, what typically happens is your friend or friends are lined up to move you come Saturday morning but mysteriously, no one shows up.  Then, you’re left to fend for yourself which often means having to rent a truck last minute which could be quite expensive.  How did moving the king size mattress all by yourself work out?  Like a workout!
Plus, did you think through the possibility of your friends seeing some of your private possessions?  Or, do you really want them handling some of your more prized and valued belongings?  The most important take away is that your time is valuable and when you don’t move with professionals, it can wind up costing more due to the time involved.

The bottom line:  do your research and hire a professional mover.  The perk of enjoying the cold beer promised for your mover friends definitely outweighs the short cut.  Happy Moving!
