Having a personal gym set up in your home can make it much easier to stick to your workout routine, especially if you lead a busy life. However, if you plan on moving, moving all of that exercise equipment can prove to be quite a challenge. The following are a few tips for moving your home gym:
- Clean everything – Your first step should be to clean and sanitize all of your gym equipment to keep it in good condition. It will also prevent you from bringing in any germs or bacteria into your new home.
- Pack smaller items – Take apart your hand weights and dumbbells. If they came in specially designed cases, use these. Otherwise, wrap each part individually in newspaper or bubble wrap to keep them protected. Don’t use cardboard boxes as they won’t likely hold up due to the weight. Use plastic bins instead. However, make sure you use smaller bins so that they won’t be as difficult to move. Otherwise, they may be too heavy to safely lift.
- Disassemble large equipment – If you have a treadmill, elliptical or stationary bike, then you’ll want to do what you can to make it easy to take out of your home. For example, you should be able to remove the pedals and handlebars from your elliptical and stationary bike. This will make it easier to carry through hallways without damaging the walls. You should wrap them up in towels as well to prevent scratches and dents.
Keep in mind equipment usually requires more than one person to carry it out of the house, which is why you’ll want to leave the task to professional movers.
