Dircks Named Move for Hunger’s September Mover of the Month
We are proud to announce that Dircks has been named Move for Hunger’s Mover of the Month for the month of September! Move for Hunger is a non-profit organization that works with relocation companies to fight hunger and reduce food waste, and Dircks has been their Maricopa County partner for many years. Each month, Move for Hunger recognizes moving companies for their commitment to fighting hunger in their communities.
This announcement comes a few weeks after we loaded up nearly 3,800 pounds of leftover food and drink from the Tempe Triathlon and delivered it to Andre House, a local food bank and homeless shelter. Dircks has participated in this event for the past three years, and has rescued more than 13,500 pounds of food and drink from this event alone!
“At Dircks we really believe in leaving the community a better place than it was when we found it, and Move for Hunger embodies that to the nth degree,” Executive Vice President Rick Dircks said about why Dircks is such a strong supporter of Move for Hunger. “It is a pleasure to partner with organizations such as Move for Hunger that are like-minded and held in such high regard within the community, because that is exactly what we are trying to do ourselves.”
Maricopa County has one of the highest rates of food insecurity in the US, with more than 571,000 people being food insecure, including 1 in 5 children. Since becoming a Move for Hunger partner, Dircks has recovered nearly 7 tons of food!
